About Bismuth Subnitrate
Bismuth Subnitrate is an inorganic compound that appears as a white to pale yellow crystalline powder. It is odorless and has a slightly astringent taste. As a subnitrate compound, it is formed through the partial hydrolysis of bismuth nitrate, resulting in an oxyacid salt with a lower oxygen atom ratio compared to normal bismuth nitrate (Bi(NO₃)₃), hence its name "bismuth subnitrate."
Solubility: Bismuth subnitrate is sparingly soluble in water but readily soluble in acidic solutions such as dilute nitric acid and hydrochloric acid. It is insoluble in ethanol.
Stability: It is stable in dry air but decomposes upon heating to form bismuth oxide (Bi₂O₃) and nitrogen oxides (NOₓ).
Acid-Base Nature: It exhibits weak alkalinity and reacts with acids to form corresponding bismuth salts.
